70% of the sums for direct payments given to farmers by February 20th

By February 20th 2009, grain producers will have about 70% of the whole sum, meant for direct payments of the campaign 2008.

The agreement was reached through the mediation of the prime minister Sergey Stanishev between the Ministry of agriculture and foods, the national fund “Agriculture” and the members ofthe Council of the National association of grain producers (NAZ).

The talks between the vice-ministers of agriculture Svetla Bachvarova and Biurhan Abazov with the chief executive of the National fund “Zemedelie” and the NAZ representatives went on for six hours.

In the early hours of the day, the prime minister Stanishev discussed with farmers the future of the sector. The meeting was negotiated in December 2008, when in the presence of the prime minister, the Ministry of agriculture and NAZ reached an agreement that guaranteed 150 million leva for national payments in 2009 to the grain producers.
