A golden ring from the 16th century found in Veliko Tarnovo

A unique ducat and a golden ring with a pearl were found during the excavations of the Catholic church “Assumption of Mary” in Veliko Tarnovo.

The artifacts are from the 16th and 17th centuries, announced the head of the project Hitko Vachev.

The first stage of the excavations went on for two months. Where once in the 16th century stood a Catholic church, now lies private property.

The coin is unique and is found for the first time in Bulgaria ever. It’s probably made during the first emperor of Austria–Hungary from the House of Habsburg.

Other coins were also found during the excavations. They are more than a hundred now and were all made during different time periods. All artifacts found during the excavations will be later given to the Regional history museum.
