Bulgaria Registers 13,8% Inflation for First Eight Months of 2008

Inflation in Bulgaria for the first eight months of 2008 compared to the same period of the previous year is 13,8%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (NSI).

The index of the consumer prices in the country for the month of August, 2008 is 100,1% compared with the month of July or monthly based inflation is 0,1%.

The main reason is the 2,0% price increase in the “housing” sector (rents, repairs and maintenance), water, electric power, gas and other fuels.

Since the beginning of the current year, the consumer prices in Bulgaria have gone up by 6,3%. Inflation is 11,2% on an annual basis.

The following goods have registered a price increase in the month of August 2008: alcoholic beverages and tobacco, rice, eggs, salt, mineral water and others.

Goods that have gone down in price in August are: non-alcoholic beverages, clothing and shoes, flour, bread, vegetable oils, fruits, vegetables.

Prices of medicaments and pharmaceutical products continue to go up in August. The dental services are up by 0,3% as well.
