May 24th – Day of Bulgarian culture and alphabet

Bulgarians consider May 24th the most loved of all holidays – the Day of Slavic alphabet and culture. On this day, Bulgarians celebrate their connection to the civilization of mankind.

The Bulgarian speech has been long ago given an alphabet, it’s own imprint on the cultural past, present and future of the world. May 24th is the summary of the respect that Bulgarians feel for the deeds of the saint brothers Kiril and Metodii, their students and the generations of educated men after them.

May 24th is a very personal holiday for each Bulgarian, bringing up the memory of the first letter he learned and the last book that stirred emotions in him.

The Cyrillic alphabet is among the official alphabets of the European Union.
