The political rivalry between Stanishev and Borisov is mutually beneficial

The political rivalry between Stanishev and Borisov is mutually beneficial and that supports it, because the leaders of both parties and the parties themselves insist on showing th BSP vs. GERB confrontation as the main political intrigue in Bulgarian society.

This was said by Cvetozar Tomov, director of the sociology agency “Skala”, in an interview for the media agency Focus. There are attempts to revive the bipolar political model of the 90s with this new BSP-GERB rivalry, thinks the sociologist.

“I don’t dismiss, however, the possibility for open political agreements between both political parties after the elections in 2009. In any case, if I judge the developments of the political processes at the moment, I regard the political coalition between both parties in the next government as a very real possibility. There are already precedents for that happening. We all remember the NDSV campaign in 2005, that claimed the party as the only alternative of BSP in the political climate”, said Tomov.
