Three new highways by 2013

The new government plans to build three new highways over the next four years.

The goal is to end the geographic isolation of Bulgaria and to revitalize the declining economic climate, stated the minister of regional development and urbanization Rosen Plevneliev in an interview for Reuters.

The new right-centrist government inherited a neglected infrastructure with years of corruption practices, political disputes and poor management, noted the news agency. Brussels has already blocked hundreds of millions because of the corruption and ineffective court system in Bulgaria.

“Bulgaria is called the most corrupted country in the EU. The former government arrogantly rejected to take any measures. Until these measures are taken, we will have no funds from the EU”, noted the Bulgarian minister in front of Reuters.

Plevneliev claimed that the measures for the improvement of transparency and the blocking of political intervention in public commissions will ensure financial aid of 900 million EUR for the construction of three 200 km. highways by the end of 2013.
