The ski track in Vitosha to be massively broadened
The planned felling of trees and the broadening of the ski tracks to seven times their current size for the new massive ski zone in Vitosha is potentially dangerous.
The new ski zone in the Nature park Vitosha will require the felling of hectares of spruce trees in order to construct an artificial lake that will provide snow for the tracks. Some of the space will be used to broaden the ski tracks as well.
All of this is forbidden according to the Plan for management of the Nature park Vitosha, approved by the Council of ministers, and according to the General urbanization plan of the capital, approved by the parliament.
Ecologists remind, that the law allows the renovation of old ski lifts and other devices, but only if this doesn’t require any changes in the management plan.
Any attempts to construct a much larger ski zone in the Nature park Vitosha could potentially lead to a lawsuit by the European court.
