35 years Nuclear Power Plant Kozloduy
Today marks the 35th anniversary of the official opening of the Nuclear Power Plant “Kozloduy”.
With it’s opening in 1974, Bulgaria became the first country in Southeastern Europe and one of the first in the world to employ nuclear power as an energy source.
For the 35 years between 1974 and 2009, the Nuclear Power Plant has produced 472 509 252 megawatts of electric power.
This production, compared to the energy generated from natural resources, spared the citizens and the environment the harmful influence of over 600 million tons of carbon dioxide, 25 million tons of sulfur dioxide, 2 million tons of nitrogen oxides and 1 million tons of dust.
