Astronomers named an asteroid after Vasil Levski
The committee for the naming of small objects in the Solar system, part of the international astronomy union (Harvard, USA) approved the proposal of the discoverers of the asteroid 204831 to name it Vasil Levski.
The news come from the University center for space research and technologies of the Physics faculty of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Scientists proposed the new name in the end of January.
After the required procedure, a commitee of 15 members published their decision in the end of last week. The asteroid is the first space object called after a Bulgarian since 1989 and the only one named after a Bulgarian revolutionary.
