The star of Manchester United Dimitar Berbatov is Bulgarian footballer в„–1 of 2008, announced the official website of the Bulgarian Football Association. Georgi Petkov got second place, and Blagoy Georgiev – third.

The captain of the Bulgarian national team wins the “Footballer of the year” prize for the fifth time (2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008), catching up with the record of Hristo Stoichkov. Berbatov will be given the award tonight at the ceremony in the “Kempinski-Zografski” hotel in Sofia.

132 journalists participated in the voting. 129 of them are representatives of 41 media outlets; two of them voted with the quota of the Association of Bulgarian sport journalists, and one is from the quota of the DAMS press centre.
