Berbatov opens scoring account with Manchester United
Bulgaria’s top striker Dimitar Berbatov scored twice to lead Manchester United to a 3-0 win over the Danish team Aalborg in a Champions League match played on Tuesday evening.
The player did not take long to show the fans why he cost over 30 million pounds, as finally unleashed his football power with two coolly-taken goals.
Wayne Rooney scored in the first half from a pass by Ryan Giggs, and Berbatov had two clean finishes after the break to give United its first win in Group E of the Champions League.
Berbatov doubled United’s lead 10 minutes into the second half, punishing an appalling blunder by Aalborg captain Thomas Augustinussen to score from the edge of the box, and added a second goal in the 79th minute, half-volleying a cross from Ronaldo.
“I knew they would come sooner or later but I’m happy it was today. I helped team to win and that is the most important thing.” Berbatov commented.
It was not all-good news for United though, as Paul Scholes suffered medial ligament damage in the win and faces a six-to-eight-week lay-off.
United are already without Michael Carrick, who will not be back for at least another month after breaking a bone in his foot in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on September 13.
