Bulgaria – second place in smoking rates in the EU
The data of the research agency Eurostat ranks Bulgaria second in the chart for the highest number of smokers in the EU populace, as 39% of the Bulgarians smoke constantly or from time to time.
The neighbouring country Greece ranks first in the chart with 42% smokers among the citizens of the country.
The research took place over the phone between December 3rd – 17th 2008, taking data from 26 500 citizens of the European union.
Slovenia has the lowest number of smokers (only 22%), followed by Sweden (26%).
The data of Eurobarometer shows that three out of every ten europeans over the age of 15 smoke.
