The roads of the Bulgarian road network are passable, but the conditions are very difficult. The road surfaces in the country are wet, partially iced and snowbound. The road maintenance offices work on the roads constantly.

Snow falls on the passes Petrohan and Shipka; in the provinces of Sofia, Burgas, Lovech, Ruse, Vratsa, Vidin, Razgrad, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen.

The road surfaces near the cities Byala, Haskovo, Pernik, Varna, near Valchi dol and Suvorovo are iced.

The passes Tvarditsa – Elena are closed. Traffic goes through the passes “Vratnik” and Etropole – Zlatitsa. The passes Arabakonak, Troyan – Karnare, Varbitsa – Sungulare are closed off for the whole winter season. The Republic passes – Shipka and Kotel – Omurtag – are temporally closed.
