The island St. Kirik gets turned into a tourist attraction

The island St. Kirik and Julita near Sozopol will be turned into a tourist destination, said the prime minister Sergey Stanishev during a visit in Sozopol.

In May, architects will finish their work on an international architecture competition for the makeover of the island into a tourism center.

Such projects can increase the quality of Bulgarian tourism products and help the development of Sozopol and the Southern Black Sea, said Stanishev.

The island is situated 250 m. to the Northwest of Sozopol. In 1965 it has been declared a protected zone inside the Sozopol reserve. It has been so far property of the government.
