The only market for film projects in Bulgaria – 6th time at the Sofia Film Fest
The now traditional event Sofia Meetings realized peaching (public presentation of a film project in front of producers) for a first, second and third full motion pictures of young European directors. Festivals like the ones in Cannes, Berlin, Moscow, etc. rely on similar forums to reveal the latest cinema trends and director discoveries.
In Bulgaria, this project began in 2004 as part of the Sofia Film Fest. The projects presented there are among the most well received and awarded European films: “The Death of Mr. Lazarescu” by Cristi Puiu brought him the Un Certain Regard Award in Cannes 2005, hinting at the revival of the Romanian cinema. The Hungarian film “Delta” by Cornell Mundruco was selected in the official competition of Cannes 2008. The statistic of successful projects is high, but the true goal of the event is to be the bridge between the products of the independent European cinema and the successful realization and distribution.
