Tunnel under the Mount Shipka in Bulgaria expected to be built

Submitted on Wednesday, 24 September 2008No Comment

MP Ivan Stamatov from the Bulgarian People’s union said for the press that there are investment intensions in realisations of the project for tunnel under the Mount Shipka. ‘If the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works starts negotiations, construction works could start quickly’, Stomatov said. ‘There are Bulgarian as well as foreign companies interested in the infrastructure project’.

It’s been nearly 100 years since the idea of a tunnel under the Balkan mountain first appeared. But it still hasn’t been realised. If that happens now, the tunnel will probably be ready in about a year and a half and cost about 250 million leva.
