136th anniversary of the death of Vasil Levski
Today Bulgaria notes the 136th anniversary of the death of Vasil Levski – the Apostle of freedom, ideologist and organizer of the Bulgarian national revolution, founder of the Internal revolutionary organization and the Bulgarian revolutionary central committee.
A dirge took place in the birthplace of the Apostle – Karlovo – in the church “St. Bogoroditsa” at 10 o’clock. A procession at the town square followed at 11 o’clock, which then went on to the house of Levski’s mother to lay wreathes there.
The national museum “Vasil Levski” hosted the discussion with the writer prof. Ivan Stoyanov on his latest book on another bright revolutionary of the Bulgarian past – Liuben Karavelov.
Later this afternoon, another dirge took place in the church “St. Sofia”. It was served by His holiness, the bishop Ioan.
The commemorative ceremony for the 136th anniversary of the hanging of Vasil Levski began at 18:00 o’clock in front of the monument of the Apostle.
