The anniversary of Sofia is a holiday for all Bulgarians

The anniversary of the capital city Sofia is a holiday for all Bulgarians, because this is a cosmopolite city for the size of the country. This was announced today by the vice-mayor of education Yordanka Fandakova during the opening of the scientific forum “Sofia – 130 years capital of Sofia”, organized by the “Culture” department of the Union of scientists of the municipality of Sofia.

To celebrate the anniversary, lectures on the history of the city and it’s development throughout the years will be presented at the forum. The history of the city’s coat of arms and several buildings and monuments will also be discussed. The lectures have been published in a collection of scientific articles dedicated to Sofia.

The chairman of the union of scientists, the surgeon prof. Damian Damianov, the director of the National history museum prof. Bozhidar Dimitrov, municipality counsellors and other public figures were present at the scientific conference. Contrary to previous announcements, the mayor of Sofia Boiko Borisov was not present at the conference.
