The National statistics institute announced that total number of university students in Bulgaria for the study period of 2008/2009 – including the students in the four educational degrees (professional bachelor, bachelor, magister and doctor) – is 274.2 thousand.

In the educational period of 2008/2009, 27.7 thousand university students will study for the educational degree “professional bachelor”. The number of Bulgarians in that group is 27 400 (98.9%). The number of students in private colleges is 19.3 thousand (69.5%).

The number of students in colleges has increased by 5.9% compared to the previous study period of 2007/2008.
