BSP and GERB – future coalition?

“2008 was stable, but in 2009 we will face a rather hard coalition process”, said the political scientist Vasil Penev. According to him, 2008 was a relatively stable year.

“In political aspect, there was nothing spectacular. No real surprises”, said he. Penev clarified, that many citizens thought that there would be pro-term elections in the passing year.

“There were predictions that pro-term elections would be caused by the political party GERB, but that didn’t happen”, said he. He adds, that the 2009-2011 period will be a much harder one. He reminded that in 2009, the mandate of the current government expires and parliamentary elections will take place.

“A new government will be elected, and that will be very hard. There are possibilities for the emergence of difficult coalitions”, says the political scientist. His opinion is that the future coalition will be between BSP and GERB. “This will be an extremely difficult coalition. 2008 was stable, but in 2009, we will have to face a new coaltion process in the Bulgarian government.”
