Bulgaria will join the anti-pirate operation of the EU in Somalia

The government decided today to include Bulgaria in the naval operation of the European Union dedicated to the hindrance, prevention and stopping of pirate activity and armed robberies near the shorelines of Somalia.

This makes Bulgaria the sixth country – member of the Union – that will have permanent representatives in the operation. So far, troops from Greece, France, Spain, Germany and Italy will also participate. Ships from three other countries and troops from other three are also expected.

The participation of Bulgaria in this operation is a real contribution to the active efforts of the European Union to ensure the safety of the shipments of humanitarian aid and foods to the refugees in Somalia and the safety of civilian ships from pirate activity.
