Jean-Claude Trichet visits Bulgaria
Bulgaria is one of the few new EU members that is dealing well with the financial and economical crisis with their own resources, claimed the Bulgarian prime minister Sergei Stanishev during his meeting with the president of the European Central Bank (ECB) Jean-Claude Trichet.
The president of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Ivan Iskrov was also present at the meeting. The leader of ECB is in Bulgaria for the 130th anniversary of BNB.
The prime minister pointed out to his guest that since 2003, the government and the central bank have been following an anti-cyclical fiscal and regulative politics, which allowed the creation of several buffers that now help the country resist the crisis.
The two discussed the dynamics of the crisis at the moment. According to the prime minister, it’s already damaging noticeably the Bulgarian economics by reducing external investments, increasing the cost of foreign financing and slowing the income of capitals in the country.
