Levski – the new champion
Levski FC and Minior (Pernik) finished the game on a draw of 1:1 in the next to last round of the “A” group in Bulgaria. The “blue” team missed numerous chances to solidify their victory, and the defensive strategy of the team from Pernik could lead to an even better result than the draw. The draw on the “Gerena” stadium and the victory of Litex over CSKA with 1:0 defined the champion for the 2008/2009 season. The new champion is the team Levski. They are winning the title for the 26th time in their history.
The game began with expected pressure from the hosts Levski. Georgi Hristov and Hristo Iovov were the first to miss their chances. The central striker of the “blue” team couldn’t make use of a high pass in the 10th minute. A little later, the shot of Hristov from 10 metres away also missed the mark.
In the 20th minute, Hristo Iovov missed another opportunity. His diagonal shot was impossible to catch for the goalkeeper Chvorovich, but it hit the right beam.
The goalkeeper of Minior Ivan Chvorovich made a stellar performance, keeping the majority of the shots of Levski away from his area – except the one by Vladimir Gadzhev in the 74th minute.
The goal for Minior came in the 51st minute, by the cold-blooded striker Kostadin Hazurov.
